Narrative inquiry is a type of qualitative research that records the lived experiences of a person or a group to help to understand a phenomenon from their unique perspective. The main format for data collection is through interviews and the stories of the participants are retold by the researcher. Narrative Inquiry is a useful method for developing a deeper understanding of a phenomenon from the perspective of those who have experienced it.
In this project, participants will be asked to share their journey in STEM education, including what they recall from their own experiences as a child, their teacher education course, first years or teaching and their current practices. It is hoped that through studying the stories of the participants and how they have been able to change their mindsets about STEM, that we will develop a better understanding of how we can support other teachers to change their STEM mindsets too.
